Noah - Note-taker (“Noah”, “we”, “us”, “our”, ”the app”) provides a service which allows our users to track, make notes on, and review what they read. Our Privacy Policy (“Privacy Policy”) is designed to help you understand how we collect, use and share your personal information and to assist you in exercising the privacy rights available to you. By using Noah, you accept this privacy policy.

1. Summary

Noah does not actively collect any data about the books and web links that you add, your notes, your tags, or any other data persisted in the app; nor does it collect any personal data. It does however use some third party services to a) store your data in the cloud (CloudKit) b) provide a source of book metadata (Google Books API) and c) manage in-app purchases (RevenueCat), these services may collect some data. In addition to the aforementioned services, Noah enables links to third-party websites, these external sites are not operated by us, and thus you should review the Privacy Policy of these websites. This privacy policy provides information about how this data is used. If you have any questions, please email support@thenoahapp.com.

2. Data storage

Your in-app, user-created data (library, notes, tags, stacks etc.) is stored on device or in the cloud using Apple’s CloudKit service. At no point does this data go to Noah or any subsequently mentioned third party (aside from Apple’s CloudKit itself).

2.1 CloudKit and iCloud

Noah uses CloudKit (an Apple service) to sync data between your Apple devices (iPhone, iPad, mac). Your data is stored in a private database, which is encrypted with an account-based key. Therefore, we do not have access to any data stored in your iCloud account. We also do not have access to your Apple ID - only a unique identifier that is scoped to just our app. It is not possible to track your identity between apps with this identifier. For more information on Apple’s privacy policy please visit: https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy.

3. Personal Information collected by Noah

Noah does not collect any data related to your personal information.

4. Data collected by other services

4.1 Google Books API

When adding books via a method which looks up book metadata online, that data is obtained from Google Books. Your search terms are provided to Google Books in order to obtain book metadata. This service may also collect some other information from your device, such as the IP address and model number. For more information on Google’s privacy policy please visit https://books.google.com/googlebooks/privacy.html.

4.2 RevenueCat

To facilitate in-app purchases and subscriptions, Noah uses a service named RevenueCat. RevenueCat has access to your purchase history in a strictly anonymous manner, ensuring there is no link to your identity. Your anonymous purchase history is used for analytics (i.e. to see the effectiveness of a product feature and revenue charts) and for app functionality (i.e. to prevent fraud).

4.3 Links to external websites

We allows users to add articles and pages via web links and thereafter open these links from the app in an external browser. If you click on a link to a third-party website, you will be directed to that site. These external sites are not operated by Noah, and thus you should review the Privacy Policy of these websites. We have no control over and assume no responsibility for the content, privacy policies, or practices of any third-party sites or services.

5. Sharing your data

Noah doesn’t provide data for tracking purposes or advertisements in any capacity. We do not sell your data to any third parties and only share your data to the aforementioned third parties.

6. E-mail and communication

Noah contains information that enables you to contact us via e-mail. If you contact us via e-mail, the transmitted personal data is stored.

7. Data Portability & Management

7.1 Export

We provide tools to export your notes to PDF, HTML, Word docx,  and RTFD; however these are conditional on owning Noah PLUS. On top of the aforementioned methods, you can export your data in the form of a .csv file at any time without the need of having Noah PLUS.

7.2 Deletion

You can delete all CloudKit data from Noah at any point. You may also delete local data by deleting the app itself.

7.3 Restriction

You can optionally disconnect Noah from using CloudKit. Beware that this will disqualify the app’s ability to synchronise your data across your devices, or to the cloud in case of your local data being lost. Note that data synced to the cloud prior to disconnecting will remain in the cloud until you choose to explicitly delete CloudKit data.
